Achievements and records of drivers who finished on the podium
Kimi Antonelli won an F1 race for the first time in his career.
Only Max Verstappen was younger when he won his first race than Antonelli (the difference is 11 months).
Antonelli and Verstappen are the only drivers who have won F1 races as teenagers.
Antonelli is the 116th driver in F1 history to win an F1 race.
Antonelli achieved Pole Position for the first time in his career.

Achievements of other drivers
Charles Leclerc started in 152 races for Ferrari. Only Michael Schumacher drove longer for this team – 180 races.
Leclerc has never finished in the TOP3 on track in Shanghai in an important session, i.e., qualifying and races. The Monegasque did achieve a podium in the sprint in 2026.
Isack Hadjar scored points for the first time in Red Bull colors.
Carlos Sainz failed to advance from Q1 in qualifying in China for the first time in his career.
Franco Colapinto scored his first point in Alpine colors. The Argentine already had five points to his name in Williams in 2024.
Esteban Ocon broke Romain Grosjean’s anti-record for the number of F1 races without Pole Position. Ocon currently has 182 F1 races on his record and has never started any of them from Pole Position.
Ocon has never advanced to Q3 in qualifying in China.
Nico Hulkenberg finishes 11th in this year’s qualifying and sprint qualifying sessions with minimal gap to advancing to Q3/SQ3 measured in thousandths of a second.
Max Verstappen had two poor qualifying performances in a row. The last time he had a worse streak was in 2016.
Verstappen failed to finish the Chinese GP twice due to mechanical failure, and his previous performances ended in points.
Fernando Alonso recorded his worst career qualifying result for the Chinese GP – 19th place. He surpassed his previous worst result – 18th place in 2015. Both of these performances coincide with the start of using new Honda engines. In 2015, he was able to finish the race.
Lance Stroll has never beaten his team partner in qualifying in China. He scored points in races only once in 2025, thanks to the disqualification of three rivals.
Oscar Piastri did not start either of this year’s F1 races, so they do not count towards his statistics. He does have three points from the sprint.
Lando Norris did not start an F1 race for the first time ever.
Gabriel Bortoleto did not start an F1 race for the first time ever.
Alex Albon did not start an F1 race for the second time in his career. In China, the reason was a mechanical failure detected before heading to the grid.
Statistics regarding teams and engines
Mercedes recorded its 133rd victory in Formula 1, including the seventh at the Chinese GP.
Mercedes recorded its 62nd one-two finish in Formula 1, including the fourth at the Chinese GP.
Mercedes recorded its 145th Pole Position in Formula 1, including the eighth for the Chinese GP.
Mercedes occupied the entire front row at the start of an F1 race for the 84th time in its history.
Mercedes is the most successful team at the Chinese GP. In their first appearance in 2010, they immediately had a podium, and in 2012 they won their first victory there for the current team. They achieved a total of 15 podium finishes in China, including 7 wins.

Oliver Bearman equaled the best result in Haas history at the Chinese GP – fifth place.
After the 2025 Chinese GP, a historic moment occurred for the Haas team, as Ocon was ahead of Ferrari drivers in the championship standings. After the 2026 Chinese GP, another historic moment occurred for this team, as Bearman is ahead of McLaren and Red Bull drivers in the standings.
The Alpine team scored double points at the 2026 Chinese GP. The last time this team scored double points was at the 2024 São Paulo GP – then it was a double podium.
Pierre Gasly achieved the best results in Alpine history at the Chinese GP – seventh place in qualifying and sixth in the race. For the team based in Enstone (formerly Renault), these are the best results since 2019, when Daniel Ricciardo was seventh in qualifying and in the race.
Liam Lawson’s seventh place is the best result for Red Bull’s junior team at the Chinese GP since 2017, when Carlos Sainz was also seventh.
Red Bull achieved its first F1 victory at the 2009 Chinese GP, 17 years ago. Since then, Red Bull has won a total of 130 races.
Williams scored its first points of the season.
Williams recorded its worst qualifying result in F1 since the 2024 Abu Dhabi GP, when their drivers also completely failed to advance from Q1.
A Cadillac driver outqualified a rival for the first time in F1 history.

Since Audi’s debut in F1, it has never had both of its cars on the grid for a race.
For the first time in history, no Aston Martin driver finished in two consecutive F1 races.
No McLaren driver started the race, both had mechanical failures that prevented them from doing so. This race will not count towards this team’s F1 statistics. The last time this happened was at the 2005 US GP, when the reason for withdrawal was problems with Michelin tires.
Other interesting statistics after the 2026 Chinese GP
The 2026 Chinese GP was the 19th Formula 1 race at the Shanghai International Circuit.
Twelve different drivers have won the Chinese GP races: Hamilton won six times, Alonso and Rosberg twice each, and the rest once each.
Hamilton is the only driver to win two Chinese GP races in a row.
This year, 22 drivers are competing in F1, but we have not yet had that many at the start of a race or sprint.
Italian drivers have won a total of 44 races in Formula 1.
The previous Italian to win an F1 race was Giancarlo Fisichella, who won the 2006 Malaysian GP – Kimi Antonelli had not yet been born then.
For the seventh time in F1 history, the season started with two one-two finishes by the same team.
The same drivers failed to advance in individual segments in Friday and Saturday qualifying.
Four drivers did not start the F1 race at all. The last time more “DNS” was recorded was at the 2005 US GP (14), when all drivers using Michelin tires withdrew.
Lap times, top speed, and pit stops at the 2026 Chinese GP
Kimi Antonelli won qualifying for the 2026 Chinese GP with a time of 1:32,064. Faster times were set in sprint qualifying, with George Russell’s best being 1:31,520. The current qualifying record for the Shanghai International Circuit is 1:30,641, set by Oscar Piastri in 2025.
Kimi Antonelli set the fastest lap time during the race. The Italian set a time of 1:35,275 on lap 52. Antonelli’s result is three seconds slower than the Shanghai circuit record set by Michael Schumacher in 2004 – 1:32,238. This is the oldest record in the F1 calendar. It will remain in F1 for years to come, as it will be difficult to improve under current regulations.
Pierre Gasly achieved the highest top speed during the race. The Frenchman recorded 353.9 km/h at the top speed measurement point. A year ago during the Chinese GP race, Lewis Hamilton recorded the highest speed at the same location – 351.4 km/h.
The fastest pit stop during the 2026 Chinese GP was performed by Ferrari mechanics, who on lap 10 changed all four wheels on Lewis Hamilton’s car in 2.29 seconds. The fastest pit stop of this season belongs to Mercedes from the Australian GP – 2.17 seconds. The F1 record remains held by McLaren with Lando Norris during the 2023 Qatar GP – 1.80 seconds.
Attendance at the 2026 Chinese GP
During the television broadcast, information appeared that all tickets were sold for the 2026 Chinese GP, with no specific data disclosed. More detailed data were later published by Chinese media. The total three-day attendance at the Shanghai circuit was 230,000 people. This is a result 10,000 higher than in 2025. More fans attended only the inaugural 2004 Chinese GP – 260,000 people over three days, but the circuit had larger grandstands then. According to detailed data, ticket revenue in 2026 increased by 30% year-over-year. 16% of fans came from outside China (mainly Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Great Britain, Germany, and France). Fans from China but outside Shanghai accounted for 64%. There was a shortage of hotel rooms within a 15 km radius of the circuit, and accommodation prices were 2-3 times higher than usual. Many additional events were held in the city, a new go-kart track was opened, a racing festival was organized, and new road car models were promoted. For several years, F1 has begun to be seriously used for promotion in China.
The Shanghai circuit initially officially held 200,000 people, but in subsequent years, due to cost savings and ground subsidence, many grandstands were demolished. The situation changed in recent years when new grandstands were built around the first turn. In 2026, grandstands around the spiral leading to the main straight were opened, which for nearly 20 years served as a place for advertising banners. In the coming years, several new grandstands are to be built at the circuit, and attendance will increase significantly.
