Important information on how to interpret F1 attendance data
When you read this article and look at the attendance data reported in the media and during television broadcasts, there are a few things you need to know.
Weekend attendance, which is most often reported in Formula 1, is the sum of all people who were in the grandstands throughout the weekend. In this way, the same fans are counted multiple times, and huge attendance figures are released to the public that have little to do with the facts. If someone bought a four-day ticket, they are counted as four people in such weekend data. There’s another issue related to this. In some cases, you don’t even have to be at the track for a person to be counted. There are situations where the grandstands were empty on Friday, and then the promoter reported a high number of fans and said they sold out all tickets. People bought multi-day tickets but did not fully use them.
An important issue is also what is considered a weekend. Some tracks include four days (Thursday – Sunday) in weekend attendance, while others include three days (Friday – Sunday). It would be enough for organizers to provide the number of fans at Sunday’s race and overall for the entire weekend, but unfortunately, this is not the rule. Only a few promoters provide exact attendance for each day of the weekend separately.
For several years, during F1 race broadcasts (during the formation lap), information is provided on how many fans are present over the weekend. When there is no attendance information during the broadcast, it most often means that the organizer had nothing to boast about or belongs to the small group that does not provide any data.
Formula 1 Race Attendance in 2025 – Table
For simplicity and ease of viewing, the table only provides data for the race and the entire weekend. Saudi Arabia did not provide any attendance data. In the case of the US GP and Las Vegas GP, we only have general information about sold-out tickets.

Notes to the table: Weekend attendance means the sum of fans from three or four days – it depends on how the given promoter approaches it.
* – The attendance data for the Monaco GP is highly inflated; it probably represents the total number of people who appeared in the city. The grandstands of this track only accommodate 24,000 people.
** – The attendance data for the Belgian GP is inflated by approximately 80,000 people. For some time, organizers have been reporting the total summed number of people at the track during the weekend, not just fans, but also team staff, security, journalists, etc. In this way, they significantly improve their data, as it is estimated that there are 20,000 non-ticketed people at the track each day.

21st Century Attendance Record at the British GP 2025
The main attendance-related event in 2025 was the excellent record at Silverstone, achieved by expanding the grandstands and selling out all tickets. Organizers reported that on Thursday, there were 60,000 fans at the track, on Friday 130,000, on Saturday 142,000, and on Sunday 168,000. The total weekend attendance was 500,000 people. I expect they slightly inflated the reported numbers to boast a total of 0.5 million. The Sunday race at the track was watched by 168,000 people, which is the best result in F1 since the US GP 2000, when there were 250,000 people in the grandstands. Currently, the Silverstone result is impossible to beat, as no other track has larger grandstands.
Weekend attendance at Silverstone in 2025, at 500,000 fans, is the second-highest result in F1 history, considering events where we know specific ticketed attendance values. The official attendance record in F1 history remains 525,000 fans at the 1995 Australian GP on the street circuit in Adelaide. The 1995 Australian GP and the 2025 British GP are the only instances in F1 history where over 0.5 million fans were at the track throughout the weekend.

Discussion of attendance at individual F1 events in 2025
After the end of the 2025 season, Liberty Media reported that tickets were sold out for 19 race weekends and new attendance records were set at 11 events. Four race weekends exceeded 400,000 fans, and ten others had attendance above 300,000 people (Source). Total season attendance increased by 4% compared to 2024. Based on data from Liberty Media, we can estimate that weekend attendance at the US GP exceeded 400,000 people, and at the Las Vegas GP, 300,000 people. The organizers of these two races did not provide specific attendance data, only reported sold-out tickets. We know the other attendances, so I estimated these numbers based on LM information and known data. However, there is one problem with the data. If we add all the data provided by the tracks (21 events) and add the estimated attendance for the USA and Las Vegas, the result is over 6.8 million, and there is still Saudi Arabia, where over 0.1 million people usually attended over the weekend. This means there is an inconsistency somewhere.
Among the tracks that published attendance data in 2025, there is no venue where the results were disappointing. Only five tracks did not sell out all tickets, but attendance there was very good, only slightly below record potential. It is not always possible to sell out all tickets.
Summary of F1 Track Attendance in 2025
The 2025 season was a record-breaking one for F1 in terms of attendance; new attendance records were set at 11 tracks, and tickets were sold out at 19. Only five Grand Prix events did not sell out all tickets, but considering the reported numbers, they were very close. There was no race weekend in 2025 whose attendance could be considered a failure. Formula 1 is currently experiencing its golden years in terms of fan interest, and the challenge will be to maintain this, as growth opportunities are very limited. A side effect is rising ticket prices, which in many cases are very high, making F1 trips beyond the financial reach of many fans.
I published the article after three races of the 2026 season, each of which recorded excellent attendance, with numbers better than in 2025. However, I do not expect a new record for the entire season, as there will likely be two fewer race weekends in 2026, and a decrease is expected. For most races, there is no longer potential for growth, as tickets are sold out and the grandstands cannot be expanded.
