Lewis Hamilton’s achievements after his first win with Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton won an F1 race for the 106th time in his career.

Hamilton won a race for Ferrari for the first time. He is the only driver in F1 history to have won races with McLaren, Mercedes, and Ferrari.

Hamilton is one of 16 F1 drivers who have won races with at least three different teams.

Hamilton, like Michael Schumacher, won his first race with Ferrari at the track near Barcelona. These two victories are exactly 30 years apart.

Hamilton became the first driver in the 21st century to win a race over 40 years old.

Hamilton became the oldest F1 race winner since the 1970 South African GP, won by Jack Brabham, who was almost 44 years old (just under a month shy).

Achievements of other drivers

Max Verstappen always advances to Q3 in qualifying at the track near Barcelona: 12/12 occasions.

Verstappen, with Red Bull, always qualifies in the TOP5 at the track near Barcelona. His weakest result at this track was sixth place in his debut season 2015 with Toro Rosso. It does not seem that he has such good and consistent qualifying results at any other track.

Carlos Sainz finished all his F1 races at the track near Barcelona, scoring no points only twice – with Williams in 2025 and 2026. He also recorded his weakest qualifying results at this venue in those seasons.

Esteban Ocon qualified 17th, matching his worst career qualifying result at the track near Barcelona. With Haas, he records his worst results at this track; previously, they were better.

Charles Leclerc, for the first time as a Ferrari driver, did not finish two consecutive F1 races.

Statistics regarding teams and engines

Ferrari recorded its 249th Formula 1 victory, including the ninth at the track near Barcelona.

The previous Ferrari win in Barcelona was by Fernando Alonso in 2013. This is currently the Spaniard’s last F1 win.

Cars with Ferrari engines have won 250 F1 races. This includes 249 wins by the Ferrari team and one by Toro Rosso.

Mercedes recorded its 150th Pole Position in Formula 1, including the tenth at the track near Barcelona.

Since 2018, Mercedes drivers have finished F1 races at the track near Barcelona in the TOP5 positions. The only exception is Antonelli, who did not finish in 2025 and 2026.

Mercedes drivers advanced to Q3 in qualifying at the track near Barcelona in 33/34 occasions. The only exception is Russell in 2023, who was eliminated in Q2.

The McLaren team started its 1000th Formula 1 race.

For the second consecutive time, the Racing Bulls team scored double points.

Liam Lawson’s eighth place is the best result for Red Bull’s junior team in qualifying at the track near Barcelona since 2016, when Carlos Sainz was also eighth with Toro Rosso.

The Williams team last scored points at the track near Barcelona in 2016, and their driver last advanced to Q3 in qualifying in 2017. In recent seasons, they regularly record poor or very poor results in this race.

Other statistical curiosities after the 2026 Barcelona-Catalonia GP

In 2026, the first F1 race for the Barcelona-Catalonia GP was held. From this year, the Spanish GP will be held at the new Madring circuit.

Formula 1 has competed at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya continuously since 1991, with 36 races held at this track.

Drivers starting from the front row have won 33 of the 36 F1 races held so far at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The only wins from further positions were Schumacher in 1996 from third, Alonso from fifth in 2013, and Verstappen from fourth in 2016. Each of these three wins was possible due to unique circumstances. In 1996, Schumacher dominated the rainy race. In 2013, the Mercedes cars starting from the front row suffered serious tire problems, and in 2016, the same Mercedes drivers starting from the front row collided and retired from the race.

Six different drivers started from Pole Position in the last six F1 races at the track near Barcelona.

Only British drivers stood on the podium at the 2026 Barcelona-Catalonia GP. The last time this happened was at the 1968 US GP, when Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, and John Surtees appeared on the podium.

For the 12th time in F1 history, the entire podium was occupied by British drivers.

Hamilton is the only driver who has completed all laps this season.

Out of 21 possible podiums this year: Mercedes scored nine, Ferrari six, McLaren four, and Red Bull and Alpine one each.

Lap times, top speed, and pit stops at the 2026 Barcelona-Catalonia GP

George Russell won qualifying for the 2026 Barcelona-Catalonia GP with a time of 1:14.679. The Mercedes driver’s result was 3.296 seconds slower than the qualifying record of this track set by Lando Norris in 2024 – 1:11.383.

Lewis Hamilton set the fastest lap during the race. The Briton clocked 1:20.122 on lap 44. This is 4.379 seconds slower than the official Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya record set by Oscar Piastri in 2025 – 1:15.743. This year, there were difficult weather conditions and significant tire problems, hence the much slower pace.

The highest top speed during the race was achieved by two drivers. Esteban Ocon recorded 358.2 km/h at the official FIA measurement point at the end of the long straight. Last year, Ocon was also the fastest at this spot but only reached 343.4 km/h. According to telemetry data, the highest speed in 2026 was reached by Gabriel Bortoleto – 360 km/h. This is the highest value this season. Bortoleto was slightly slower than Ocon at the official measurement point but continued to accelerate after passing it.

The fastest pit stop during the 2026 Barcelona-Catalonia GP was performed by the McLaren team mechanics. On lap 14, they changed all wheels on Oscar Piastri’s car in 2.13 seconds. The season record remains Ferrari’s 2.00 seconds at the Japanese GP. The overall Formula 1 record is McLaren’s pit stop with Lando Norris at the 2023 Qatar GP – 1.80 seconds.

Attendance at the 2026 Barcelona-Catalonia GP

During the TV broadcast, it was announced that all tickets for the 2026 Barcelona-Catalonia GP were sold out, and the weekend attendance was 301,273 fans. The organizers clarified on the track’s website (Source) that on Sunday, there were 124,870 fans at the track. Unfortunately, more detailed data for all days were not provided this year. The total attendance was higher than in 2025, when 300,826 fans were at the track throughout the weekend. However, Sunday attendance slightly decreased, as last year there were 125,902 people. Since last year, the organizers of races at the track near Barcelona provide weekend attendance for four days, not three as before. Thanks to this, they can boast a total attendance of over 300,000 for the weekend for only the second time in history. Last year, there were 9,172 fans on Thursday, so the difference is not large but enough to report a more impressive attendance.

In the table below, you can see attendance data for F1 at the track near Barcelona since 2004. The attendance record was at the peak of “Alonsomania” in 2007. Currently, the track probably no longer has such capacity. Attendance at the race has remained very high and stable for several years. Unfortunately, I do not have specific weekend data for this period, so I do not know if this year’s result of 301,273 fans is a record. I suspect it is, as 20 years ago, significantly fewer fans appeared at the track on Fridays and Saturdays.
