Very good results for Jan Przyrowski in the FRMET series in 2026

Jan Przyrowski concluded the 2026 winter season in the Formula Regional Middle East Trophy (FRMET) series. The 17-year-old from Rossoszyca secured third place in the first race and fifth in the second during the round at the Lusail circuit in Qatar. A solid points haul allowed the ORLEN Motorsport Academy protégé to secure third place in the rookie standings and sixth in the general classification.

Best qualifying and competitive race pace

The final round of FRMET took place unusually, in the middle of the week (11-13.02). Less than a week and a half after the competition at the Dubai Autodrome, where Jan Przyrowski and the RPM team had their best weekend of the season, everyone was counting on progress. Two test sessions were supposed to take place on Wednesday, but only one occurred, which was quite chaotic. During the fast attempts of the driver from Rossoszyca, yellow or red flags appeared, or a queue of slowing rivals. Despite this, the feelings were good, and a real test was to take place on Thursday. However, it turned out that some of the faults could not be resolved, and the organizers halted the round after interrupting practice (Jan was 4th at the time). All activities were moved to Friday, and unfortunately, it was decided to cancel one of the three races.

Friday, February 13, began with a morning 40-minute practice session, which didn’t reveal much. This promised an interesting qualifying session. It wasn’t easy to get the tires working, and often several laps passed before everyone decided to push. In the Q1 session, Przyrowski set the sixth fastest time. Meanwhile, he finished Q2 with the eighth result. There was no shortage of red flags in the qualifying session either. One of them was caused by Alexander Abkhazava, who was ranked ahead of the Pole. It turned out that the representative of Kazakhstan did not have a fault, but simply ran out of fuel and therefore stopped on the track. In this situation, the regulations clearly state the disqualification of the driver from the entire session. Finally, qualifying ended with fifth and seventh places – the highest across all four FRMET rounds.

Right at the start of the first race, the ORLEN Motorsport Academy protégé got off to a very good start from the fifth grid slot and immediately gained two positions. Then the 17-year-old fought with Sebastian Wheldon ahead of him and Alex Powell pushing him from behind. Przyrowski had the pace of the top leaders and recorded competitive times, safely finishing in third place. After his third podium visit this season, the Pole wanted to perform as well as possible in the final competition. In the race held at night, he also had an atomic start and very quickly gained two positions. Then, in the later phase of the competition, he was close to gaining another spot. The pace of the rivals was very similar, and finally, there were no reshuffles, which meant fifth place for Jan.

In total, in two races, the first Pole in the history of Formula Regional Middle East (Championship and Trophy) earned 25 points and was only three “points” short of repeating his Dubai haul. However, it is worth noting that this time, only two races instead of three were enough for the Pole to achieve almost the same result. All in all, Jan Przyrowski is satisfied with the round at the Lusail International Circuit. Before traveling to Qatar, the 17-year-old was in eighth place with 46 “points”. The large haul meant increasing this total to 71 points. This ultimately allowed him to move up to sixth place in the general classification. It is worth emphasizing that the fifth-placed Sebastian Wheldon ahead of him earned the same number of “points”, but the balance of second places decided the ranking. Fourth-placed Alex Powell, who was ahead of this duo, collected only five points more. This just shows how tight the field was and how much changed almost every race.

The driver from Rossoszyca took third place in the Rookie Cup classification, which highlights debutants. Only Kean Nakamura-Berta (this year’s FRMET champion) and Maximilian Popov placed ahead of the Pole. Przyrowski became the second runner-up of the Formula Regional Middle East Trophy rookies.

The Pole significantly helped his team

Before the last round, RPM was in fifth place in the team standings with 72 points. The Trident team had the same amount, ranking behind them due to a slightly worse podium balance. Fourth-placed ART Grand Prix was not far ahead, with 17 points. Already after the first race in Qatar, Jan made up most of the deficit and pulled his team away from the rivals directly behind them. The second race was decisive because the gap was two points, but the highest-starting ART driver was ahead of the Pole. Ultimately, Kabir Anurag defended himself against the pushing RPM leader, and in the end, they were just short by three “points”.

Looking through the prism of the entire FRMET season, Jan Przyrowski’s sixth place and the RPM team’s fifth place in the “general classification” is a great success. The Pole debuted on tracks new to him, while some of his rivals had competed in the Middle East in the past in FRMEC or at the F4 level (UAE4 or Formula Trophy). The Irish-Italian team also had no experience from previous years, which, despite major changes with the appearance of the new Tatuus T-326 designs, could have helped in setting up the machine. Additionally, in the first round, Jan had engine problems that limited his chances of scoring points. Before Europe, on familiar ground, the development of the RPM team is a very good omen and a sign of fighting for race victories.

Jan Przyrowski positively evaluates his starts in the Middle East

Jan Przyrowski did not have to wait long to start competing in the 2026 season. On January 13, the first test day was held in Abu Dhabi, and then on January 16-18, the first round of FRMET took place. Drivers and teams competed for three weekends in a row. This marathon ended only with the break between the round in Dubai and the one in Qatar’s Lusail. Ultimately, however, on February 13, the ORLEN Motorsport Academy protégé finished the winter part of this year’s starts. Now he has to wait until April 24-26 and the Formula Regional European Championship (FREC) round at the Red Bull Ring.

The break between the winter and main season will be used for training, simulator preparation, and several test sessions on the track. In the meantime, Jan will be active on his social media accounts, where he will try to show his story and the behind-the-scenes of his work.
